1. A must relax Self-care routine (after work evening routine)
Adopting a self-care practice that can improve your life, particularly when there’s so much going on in the world that’s outside of your control, is another.
For instance, many of us spend most of our free time caring for our children and family.
As busy working moms, we often forget that self-care is not something that is reserved for weekends only. We need some time to ourselves every day.
If you don’t take time for yourself, you could be doing more harm than good. Stress, exhaustion, burnout, and even illness can take more of a toll when you aren’t getting what you need.
Moms need to have some time to themselves. Make sure your routine includes some form of self-care. This could be anything from reading your favorite book to taking a relaxing bath.
So whether you carve out a few minutes for yourself.
2. A quick night time cleaning routine
Ask family members to put their dirty dishes into the sink when they are done eating. Put leftovers away, load the dishwasher, hand wash dishes that cannot go into the dishwasher, clean up the stove top, and wipe down the counters.
A cleaning routine is very important for a working mom
Those are the five main tasks for the kitchen. You can also add empty the dishwasher when the cycle is done.
Sweep or vacuum the floor to pick up any crumbs or dirt that may have been tracked in during dinner. We certainly don’t have the energy for this daily, but it helps with general upkeep.
3. Meal prep for the next day (after work evening routine)
It takes a little effort at the outset to think through what you’re going to eat the following week but having a plan in place takes away the stress of planning and cooking meals every day. Meal prep for the next day must be included in your after work evening routine.
You may even save money by meal planning, not only by eating fewer meals out but by cutting down on food waste.
You don’t even have to stick to your meal plan in the letter simply having a rough guide can be enough to take some of the stress out of grocery shopping and preparing meals every week.
These would be things like ensuring enough pantry for the coming week, taking out meat from the freezer to defrost, or setting up your slow cooker on the kitchen countertop in the evenings as a reminder to set it up in the morning.
All those teeny tiny things add-in to incorporate a good morning routine.
4. Plan your tomorrow before bed
Being effective as a working mom is often about hard work, but even more importantly it’s about smart work. Smart working moms know that time is limited and valuable, so they need to make the most of each waking hour.
Write out the tasks you need to get done tomorrow – are there any specific things that absolutely must be completed? Add in any meetings and appointments, so you know when you’re not available to work on those tasks.
Add any phone calls you need to make, and any errands you need to run before or after work. Of course, your new routine will take some tweaking, and some nights it won’t be possible, but once you write it down, you’ll start doing it.
Once you see results, you won’t ever want to be without your new routine!
5. Stick and follow the same routine
I encourage you to pick the one thing that you think would be most helpful on this list and try it for a week or two. Tweak it, adjust it, and figure out what works for you. Once you’ve got one thing down, you can slowly add more tasks to your evening routine.
If you run out of time and your house isn’t picked up, don’t worry. You’ll be able to get more done tomorrow.
All of that might seem like a lot of work to do every night, but having all of those things done daily makes my life so much more peaceful and organized.
