Block scheduling system is the practice of planning out every moment of your day in advance and commuting individual time blocks for specific tasks and responsibilities.
A standard to-do list tells you what you need to do, while block schedules tell you when you will do it and finish it.
It means you look at your day in chunks of time.
This method works well for us with our small kids because our days naturally fall into chunks of time.

By scheduling every minute of your day, you not only guard against distraction but also multiply your focus.
I have broken my day up into about 2 hours block!
written, e.g., block schedule
I write down everything that I might want to accomplish into five schedules within 3 hours.
When something comes up, I automatically know what schedule and block it fits.

Now it’s time to use the block according to the nature of the task. It’s effortless to get distracted and start flitting from task to task.
Block scheduling is time-blocking that set aside long periods for focussed work.
By determining your shallow task and deep task, focus performance can be done.
The shallow task and deep task’s purpose is to have an assigned time for everything that needs to be done.
During the morning, family time dishes, laundry (shallow work) can be done.
Work block (deep task) is just for work.
Stick to your assigned priority in your block if you can block out your best time for productive and meaningful work, the better.
Why block scheduling system works?
It is a visual method of getting things done. Every task you want to do will not be accomplished on the same block period, on the same day.
But you are working on getting things done.
You have a specific time every day to get things done. You have time to clean every day, time to work every day and to recharge every day.
How does block scheduling help in focus?
We women carry lots of mental loads, and it can be so hand to get everything done.
Block scheduling helps do everything and has a time and place.
You can focus on cleaning because you know you have a set period to work later.
Again you can focus on work because you know that you have cleaned.
Extra tips
- Place buffers in between tasks
- Schedule your breaks: We are not machines, so make sure you set aside time throughout the day for your one time.
- Write down your daily to-do list: Plan how you will fill your blocks the night before. If I start my day without a plan, I waste a lot of my time trying to plan how I should spend my day.
You don’t need to spend a lot of time on your to-do list. Just 5 minutes every night before bed.

Time blocking is only one of the many time management strategies to increase productivity.
If you have a party to go to, make sure you section out time to get ready. I have blocked off time right up until we needed to leave, completely forgetting I had to shower and dress.
The key to this system, in the beginning, is to be overly thorough. As you get better at scheduling in blocks of time, you will not need to be so strict. And the more you can control what’s there, the more in control you will be of your time and focus.
