Easy Tips to Keep a Clean House with Kids
1. Wake Up 15 Minutes Earlier
get a head start on the day. Because there are fewer interruptions in the morning, you’re automatically more productive.
This one may sound strange but you will notice how the day seems to flow so much smoother when you get up early or on time and have a moment to think about the day.
Having that quiet time before the start of the morning chaos can help you get into a good mental space.
understand how tempting it is to stay up late after the kids have gone to bed.
However, the earlier you go to bed, the simpler it will be to get up in the morning.
Waking early is the best out of 8 things productive moms do early in the morning.
2. Make a cleaning schedule, and stick to it
If you don’t have a plan or a cleaning schedule then your housework can be overwhelming and never-ending.
I’ve broken down a method to help you come up with a house cleaning schedule that works and you can stick to it every single day.
Here’s My Simple Cleaning Schedule
- Every day: wipe down all surfaces, do the dishes, take out the trash, sweep
- Weekly: Mop the floor, Dusting
- Monthly: Clean the oven, clear out the fridge/pantry, organize kitchen cabinets
I use my house cleaning checklist to keep a track of my cleaning schedule. This way I know what areas and stuff I need to tackle that particular day.
Another thing I just roughly note down in my planner is the things to do!
3. Make Your Bed First Thing
“If you make your bed every morning, you will have accomplished the first task of the day. It will give you a small sense of pride and it will encourage you to do another task and another and another.” as said by Naval Admiral William McRaven, the commander of U.S. {source}
Making your bed is a keystone habit that leads to better productivity and a greater sense of well-being among other things.
I believe what he said! I felt like that. I know it’s so overwhelming for us to do every single chore every day with kids.
But if you make your bed first thing every day, half of your cleaning is done.
It’s much better to enter into a room with a clean bed, even if the floor or table is not perfect.
4. Do A Load Of Laundry Every Day.
What you need to do is find a laundry routine that meets your needs.
A routine that you will have time to do regularly and a routine that you can easily stick to.
One of my favorite mom hacks, to keep the house clean with kids, is to tackle laundry every day.
One way you can boost your laundry routine is by taking the dirty laundry from every room in the house, to the laundry room, EVERY night before bed, or in the morning according to your schedule.
Don’t let piles of dirty laundry hang out in every room. Every day put a load of laundry in the washing machine
5. Meal Prep Every Weekend
Meal prepping can make your week so much easier in so many ways.
why you may want to consider meal prepping?
The most wonderful thing is you’ll save time!
Instead of wasting time trying to figure out what to cook, or whether you should order takeout, meal prepping assures that you always have a little meal waiting patiently for you on your lunch break or when you arrive home.
And, don’t forget the most important factor: Meal prepping means fewer dishes.
I have some amazing meal planning hacks for busy moms!
The more you meal prep, the less you have to cook, the less the kitchen gets destroyed, and the less you have to clean.
6. Do A Quick Wipe Down After Cooking.
Cleaning while cooking is probably one of the most important things you can learn to do when you are a busy mom.
While you’re cooking in the kitchen, you should be cleaning out the fridge, wiping cabinets down, washing the dishes, etc.
7. Make cleaning more accessible (for your kids so that they can help you)
Ways to get your kids to start cleaning up after themselves is to make cleaning more accessible for kids so that they can help you!
There has to be a better way to get kids to clean up:
- The best way to make this happen is by making a “take one out, put one away” policy.
- Make sure everything has a special place
- Label bins with pictures for pre-readers
- Offer a warning that clean up is about to happen
- Give a specific timeframe and stick to it
8. Have A System For Toys
One of the easiest ways to keep kids’ toys organized is to develop an organization system.
I have already taught them “play and clean system”. So I don’t have to worry much about the toy cleaning process or organization.
As my two kids have lots of toys, I regularly go through the toys and ask kids if they don’t like any toys anymore, we can either donate them or get rid of them.
Whenever we buy a new toy for them we go for one in one out rule for toys ( which means time for donation)
9. Do a Nightly cleaning routine
I love routines, and I find I get more done in less time.
Most importantly, it makes my day less stressful when my practice is on a good track.
A 15-minute nightly routine to clean up and organize the living room, family room, and playroom will make keeping the house clean and tidy so much easier.
Having a nighttime routine saves me so much time getting the kids out the door for school in the rushed mornings.
A daily night cleaning routine is ultimately about making things easier for you the next day.
10. Be More Intentional With Your Time
You’re busy but you have got to make time to clean your house point-blank. There’s no way around this one but luckily it’s easier to do than you think.
Just 30 minutes before you go to bed and 30 minutes in the morning before everyone wakes up will go a long way towards keeping your house clean.
