Are you wondering to manage home without maid during lockdown?
How to clean the house without any household help?
Due to this pandemic situation, many of us still prefer to stay at home, and this endless way of living is continuing… Don’t know when this all gets to an end!
Managing home without maid in the current situation can be stressful, especially for very busy working moms with kids around.
Now, this coronavirus fear is beating us, and most of you must have asked your maid’s help to avoid it until the situation gets better.
I know it’s so hard to juggle your work, kids, family, household chores everything together. I was struggling with these, but now, I found it manageable without a maid.
Do you want to manage a home without a maid?
Here are my tips to help you to simplify your life.
1. Meal planning and meal prep
As an Indian family, I felt that Indian cooking is a time-consuming process.
You can manage cooking without maid or any other outside help.
You can do some batch cooking like cook your dal for dal fry or sambar. Be ready with your time-consuming meals, such as non-veg meals or other time-consuming food items.
Meal planning and meal prepping saves you a lot of your time and money.
2. Reduce dishwashing job
Dishwashing is a must task in our everyday life. If you cook, definitely you may have dishes to wash. So the easiest hack is to reduce dishes to wash.
How to make dishwashing easier?
Do you want to reduce dishwashing? then follow these steps
- Avoid using unnecessary cutlery while cooking.
- Try to use one utensil for the whole cooking process.
- Do washing while cooking.
3. Sweeping and moping
Sweeping and mopping is another vital chore in our everyday life. In all most, all Indian home sweeping and mopping comes other than vacuuming.
It’s absolutely fine you can manage home without maid during lockdown.
Floor cleaning hacks:
- The floor always needs to be cleaned every day but don’t go overdoing. You may get overwhelmed.
- Sweep them daily but mop them in alternating days
- Try to pick up as you go, which can reduce your cleaning task.
- My personal favorite is once mopping without sweeping. This works for me, and it makes my home super clean.
4. Laundry during the scheduled time
Go for one load of laundry every day so that it wouldn’t pile up. Try to shuffle the laundry according to its colour.
You can easily manage home without maid. Here you have amazing laundry hacks
Get more than a laundry basket:-
Also, it helps to have separate baskets to sort clean clothes – one for the kids, one for the parents. This makes folding them easier to tackle. In addition to that, if there is no time to fold the clothes, it’s easier to dig through the sorted laundry in those respective baskets to find specific clothes.
- Always try to do your laundry before you go to bed. This hack helps me to have a peaceful day…
- If you practice doing laundry before bed, your laundry gets dried before the harsh sunlight.
- Fold while taking from hanging laundry rod. Get a bin fold and put laundry directly into it. Try this! You will love these hacks!
- Collect all your laundry in one place, and this helps every member to follow the rule.
5. Share responsibilities

Sharing responsibilities is essential; otherwise, it’s tough for them to do all the household chores.
Every family should participate in their respective task daily.
Mom can divide the work in advance, which can involve everybody in it.
My husband takes care of laundry folding in my home, my babies clean up their toys, which is a huge lifesaver for me☺️.
Those small efforts will not only help in the chores but will also keep them engaged.
6. Buy groceries in bulk.
During this pandemic, I prefer to buy bulk groceries online. Bulk groceries help in different ways.
- It saves us money.
- It helps the stock pantry during this lockdown scenario.
- It reduces the organising work as it’s done bulky.
- It also helps in meal planning for weeks.
- Go for smart grocery shopping hacks.
7. Keep covers and sheets to avoid dust and spills.
Covering furniture helps to avoid dust and spills in my favorite tip. Keeping the sofa and chairs covered can help you to keep it safe from your kids. It reduces extra unnecessary accidental chores.
8. Clean and organise as you go.
Cleaning and organising as going from one place to another make your home consistently clean.
This hack avoids cluttering your home and finding things at their designated area in putting things in their proper place whenever you use them.
Picking up things and keeping them here and there makes your home messy. Train all your family members to do this.
Some daily keep up things:
- Make your bed as soon as you wake up
- Place back your kitchen spice jar back to its place shortly after cooking.
- Do a quick wipe down after every meal and learn how to cook without making huge mess.
- Declutter your kitchen before you go to sleep.
9. Establish a routine
Some tasks need to be done daily, such as laundry, dishes, floors, and removing trash. All have different time preferences, so you need to see what works for you and your family.
I have my routine with my cleaning schedules, work from home schedules, cooking, washing dishes, laundry, grocery, etc. You can create your routine according to your working schedule.
My relaxed cleaning routine,
- Daily task
One load laundry, sweep and mop the floor, doing dishes, kitchen countertop cleaning, etc… Exactly all tasks you can see in the above free printable checklist.
- Thrice a week task
Dusting, folding laundry, cleaning the bathroom, clean anyone electric appliances ( like refrigerator, microwave, conventional oven, etc.)
- Once in a week task
Vacuuming window, all dust-prone areas (fans, window ducts, furniture, etc.), balcony washing, dusting ignored areas around the house.
- Once in a month task
Deep cleaning windows, door fans, etc. The toilets and bathrooms including scrubbing wall tiles, bathroom fittings, chimney cleaning, wipe all the furniture if necessary.
It is a lot to clean a whole house, but with a proper plan, you can do it. Make a cleaning checklist for your family, which works well.
10. Be flexible
For better days, we should have a flexible mind. Sometimes if my floor is not much dirty, I sweep it and mopping or mop high traffic areas.
Moreover, all the cleaning, cooking, washing all depends on your family members. So be flexible in your task. Moreover don’t try to make your home perfect. I used to do it, trying to be a super mom or a superwoman?.
You should know that it wouldn’t work out ever, and we either can’t get it all done. Do what works for you and can get done.
Conclusion
Managing the household without a maid is manageable if you have a proper plan and responsibilities sharing among the family members.
Always encourage kids to do small tiny things, which helps you a lot.
Sometimes my kids refuse to shower and give me a hard time, and I won’t run behind them.
However, not bathing for a day won’t cause any harm; that’s mama’s life?.
There’s always tomorrow! If I’m too tired to clean the floor, I won’t do it. I can clean the next day; no big deal.
Or if i feel so tired to cook, then we buy from outside, no problem once in a while restaurant food, otherwise we will mothers can’t survive.
Finally, don’t forget to find time for yourself. Without self-love (me-time), you will be completely exhausted, and you can’t be able to enjoy your life. Take some breaks meanwhile then finish your daily task.
