Is your home clean and clutter-free? Or do you want to know about my life-changing habits for a clean home?
A messy house can be overwhelming, and the habits required not only to get it cleaned. But to keep it that way can seem like too much to tackle.

But, if I just do little things throughout the day it just becomes a simple habit to a cleaner home.
I’ve found that by establishing some simple daily habits, I can keep on top of the chaos and clutter and dirt so that cleaning takes half the time.
Some of these I’ve learned from my mom, and some just from experience in intentionally creating a naturally healthy, simple, and decluttered home.
Yes, there are still times that things get crazy and I’m not able to always follow through with the daily cleaning.
But, for the most part, I do try to follow these 5 habits to keep a house clean and tidy.
Life-Changing Habits for a Clean Home
1. Make your bed every day
Making your bed reminds your brain that there is satisfaction in completing even the smallest task. Your bed looks great, and now you want to keep the rest of your home looking good, too.
I know some people think that making the bed is a waste of time. But it makes a big difference in how tidy the room looks and only takes a couple of minutes.
Take two minutes every morning and get in the habit of making your bed. Or have your partner do it if they’re the last one out!
Just try it you might be surprised!
2. Create a 15-minute cleaning routine
As people we’re routine-oriented. It’s why we always remember to brush our teeth before bed. It’s something we have always done and so it became a habit.
We can do the same thing with some cleaning tasks so they become so routine it just starts to happen naturally.
If you don’t have a cleaning routine start by making a cleaning checklist.
Make a list of the daily cleaning tasks you need to do and post them on your fridge or someplace visible.
Then, compile a list of weekly chores, monthly deep cleans, and annual spring cleaning tasks.
It helps you tidy up from the day, prepare for tomorrow, or maybe grab something off the cleaning list by timesheet and tackle it.
Again, it just becomes a little habit you do at the same time every day but it’s always a 15-minute, drop everything and pick up.
3. Get rid of clutter
You must take steps to avoid accumulating more clutter in the future.
Most people have at least a few duplicate items sitting around, whether they were acquired intentionally or not.
And, almost always, only one of these items gets used regularly. Getting rid of the lesser-used dupe is an easy way to eliminate excess stuff in your home.
Not immediately putting things where they belong will make you less likely to do so later on, and getting into the habit of putting things away can minimize clutter.
Usually, clutter builds up when you purchase things that you don’t need, or when you are offered freebies.
So before you accept items or buy anything new, consider whether you truly need it or not.
3. Never go to bed with a dirty kitchen sink
I’m one of those people who firmly believes that as long as my kitchen is clean the rest of the house feels less chaotic.
It’s the first cleaning habit I ever adopted and I started to see how powerful cleaning habits could be.
Depending on your evening routine you may have to play around with when you want to take care of the sink. The most important thing is that you find the time to do it every single day.
Even if you don’t have time to wipe down the counters or clean the crumbs off the table. Having a clean sink will instantly make the entire kitchen feel noticeably better.
4. Clean as you go
Clean it up and put it all away before you move on. If you incorporate this into everything you do throughout your day, there will be a lot less lying around taunting you later.
Putting things away as you go doesn’t take up much time but it will make the difference between a tidy house and a messy house at the end of the day.
Take your clothes off by your closet and either hang them back up or put them directly in the laundry.
There will be times when this is not possible, but do it when you can and you will save yourself a ton of cleaning up in the end!
When you embrace this cleaning habit, and everyone in the house participates. Anytime someone needs to use the kitchen or bathroom counter it’s clean and ready for them.
All of these little things are just habits that can be created with a little planning.
Final Thoughts
Creating daily cleaning habits keeps your home clean, neat, and tidy and reduces the stress associated with a messy, dirty house.
There are a lot of habits for a clean home, and it might seem overwhelming. But if you tackle these five life-changing habits for a clean home one at a time it won’t be that hard.
