I’m sure that my nighttime habits have the largest effect on my life.
Having a night routine is essential for everyone who wants to reach their goals and become successful. Whether your goals in life are big or small, building positive habits and routines will help you to be happier and more content with your life.
You have probably at least thought about having a morning routine and maybe you have one, but good night routines are just as important if you want to succeed in life.
By taking the time to thoughtfully and carefully plan out some productive night habits, you can set yourself up for an incredible and stress-free morning the next day!
These are just some of my suggestions that I hope will encourage and inspire you! If adding more steps to your nighttime routine sounds overwhelming, then start from one routine. Choose the habits that make your life more easy and smooth.
Things to Do at Night – Night Routine Ideas
You will become a better, more productive version of yourself both at work and at home. Having a productive day creates a happy, fulfilled, and well-balanced life.
A nighttime routine can rid you of sleep issues, inculcate a smoother morning routine, and promise an energetic day, both at work and at play.
So let’s dive into simple nightly routines for productive days.
1. Quick cleanup routine (simple nightly routines)
I know that waking up in the morning to a clean kitchen always makes my day, so I prioritize this habit! I never go to bed with an untidy kitchen. Cleaning is an important and simple nightly routines which helps you to build a non-choric days.
- Create a nightly kitchen cleaning routine that saves your mornings.
- Leaving things lying around, creates potential distractions and loss of focus in the morning.
- Waking up and getting ready for work in a messy house can keep you from finding the things you need quickly.
Some night time cleaning to-do list :
- put all dinner dishes in the dishwasher.
- wipe down counters.
- clean sink.
- tidy up and declutter kitchen counters.
- pick up toys and kid’s bedroom
- tidy up/declutter the living room.
- fold and put away laundry.
Thankfully, spending just a few minutes a night tidying up will help reduce stress in the mornings and help you avoid marathon cleaning sessions on the weekends
2. Prepare for tomorrow (simple nightly routines)
Planning your day at night is great because it can be so quick and make such a huge difference in the morning.
Preparing the things you need for tomorrow is a great nighttime habit to help you prepare for a productive day!
- Your workout clothes
- Your lunch bag
- Your kid’s lunches
- Your kid’s backpacks
- Clear your workspace
See, setting even basic things out the night before is a time-saver, and sets you up for a more productive day tomorrow.
3. Brain dump (simple nightly routines)
A brain dump is essentially just as it sounds dump all the things still lingering in your mind onto a piece of paper and let it go. Set aside at least five minutes before bed to brain-dump your ideas or create a simple to-do list.
Through the process of brain dumping, you allow yourself to clear your mind all of the hustle and bustle of the day. You can write down all of the items on your to-do list that you didn’t have time to complete to set yourself up for success the next day.
Brain dumping always helps me to sleep peacefully, because I didn’t want to worry about the things coming the next day.
4. Create to-do list
Do you know why people praise to-do lists so often? Because they work, seriously I love this and more satisfying thing to do!
Planning your day at night is great because it can be so quick and make such a huge difference in the morning.
It helps me get important stuff done. It’s the only reason I’ve steadily improved my productivity.
I love to plan my days more thoroughly in the morning but having a rough plan to build off of just makes my morning planning so much easier!
5. Practice A Self-Care Routine Of Appreciation And Gratitude
If you work through the night, the next day, your body will need to compensate and recover to function optimally again.
Taking the time to tidy up is a crucial productive night habit to adopt
A perfect night routine MUST include some form of comforting self-care!
A good skincare routine can be a part of building up your life. It’s also a nice way to relax at the end of the day.
Set a discipline of self-care to lower the cognitive intensity of the night and perform a self-care routine.
I’d encourage you to do the productive part of your nightly routine before you rest – unless of course you just need a quick break after work!
I also don’t necessarily believe that watching TV or scrolling social media are a high-quality way to rest and relax!
6. End Activities One Hour Before Going To Sleep
Many of us check our phones one last time before bed. we are all overly attached to our technology. We keep checking our phones every time we hear a notification; we don’t want to miss out on anything. It’s a habit. A terrible habit!
But if we give in, we look up 45 minutes later and wonder why we wasted so much of our precious time! And now we’re not tired! set a boundary for yourself.
My rule is to turn off my phone 1 hour before bed. The trick is to keep to the shutdown sequence and make it a habit.
