What Is Holiday Stress?
Finding the time to attend every party or feeling like you haven’t been invited to enough parties can cause stress.
Stress can start to pile up when you add the financial burden, travel, and visiting family members.
Holiday stress, or any stress for that matter, is our mind and body’s response to our lives’ pressing responsibilities and demands. Stress is normal.
You can beat the holiday stress and have a relaxed holiday season by following these five simple tips to reduce holiday stress for moms:
6 Tips to Reduce Holiday Stress
You may not be able to avoid stressful situations during the holidays.
But you can plan to respond to them in a healthy way.
Think about the kinds of events that trigger stress for you during the holidays.
Then you can focus on one or two things you can do that will help the most to reduce stress.
1. Start And Prepare Early With A Plan
I like to cook, so this works well for me.
If you don’t want to be stuck in the kitchen the night before and all day on holiday, preparation is critical.
You can buy pre-cut veggies to save time. Or, cut up them up two days early and seal them tight in the fridge.
Once it is all prepped, you can cook it the night before or the morning without being stressed.

Early preparation can be vital for holidays and extended vacations.
If your backpack is ready, you are good to go!
But now your packing needs a lot more effort because you have your family with you.
Travel in itself can be hectic, and we know it only gets more chaotic around the holidays. Lines will be longer, crowds will be bigger, and energy will be more frantic.
Here are some simple tips to help it go a little more smoothly,
- Pack all medications and supplements in a carry-on bag or purse if any luggage is lost or you need immediate access.
- Make a separate packing checklist for each individual.
- Pack snacks first, and it’s essential, especially if you are traveling long distances. Take snacks high in protein!
2. Make Lists To Keep You On Track

If you don’t organize your information, it can be scattered everywhere.
Even a regular pinboard can look messy, but it’s much less messy if you separate it into different topics or categories.
Making a list of everything you’d like to accomplish this holiday season and check items off as they are done.
- Special dinner recipe list
- Holiday shopping list
- Budgeting
- Cleaning and organization
- Decorating
- Cooking and meal planning
- Holiday activities
- Home organization list
- Travel checklist
3. Eat Right and Exercise
Healthy eating gives you the energy you need during the day and keeps your body nourished so that it runs at its peak.
Prioritize your sleep! Not only will it keep your stress and anxiety at bay, but it will also help your immune system stay healthy.
Make sure you’re getting plenty of protein, calcium, and water.
Being sick during holidays is the absolute worst, so you need to do what you can to avoid it!
4. Learn To Say No
Making more time for family fun means that you’ll also need to say NO to those things that only add stress to your schedule unnecessary appointments, boring holiday visits, holiday activities that your family doesn’t enjoy.
One tip to saying no is to select the event you want to attend when you have a choice.
The one that sounds fun or the ones your kids have been dying to do. Then decline the rest.
5. Stay Positive

But how often are we short-tempered, grumpy, and focused on the negative?
We are frustrated at our busy schedule, mad at our husband for not helping enough, and bothered by all the work. Perhaps instead, we should learn to focus on the positives we have going on.
The holidays are a wonderful, beautiful, and joy-filled time, or at least they are supposed to be.
There is always an upside to every situation. Look for it and think about those things the most.
6. Make Time For Yourself
Self-care doesn’t have to be complicated, and even a few minutes can go a long way to recharging you.
Not taking care of yourself and always putting your family first doesn’t make you a better person,
Even if it’s 5 minutes to sit while you eat and eat a couple of veggies, making your physical, mental, and emotional needs a priority will pay off.
Self-care is not selfish. It’s a necessity!
