Want to know top simple daily frugal habits save more money?

I thought a frugal lifestyle could seem like a sacrifice in quality, But I was wrong.

It doesn’t have to be. Instead, you can choose to be frugal in ways that will add more value to your life.

But first, what is frugal living? Most people think about being miserable and cheap when they hear the word mean.

I don’t have so many things like clothes, bags, shoes. I buy what I need when I need it.

To me, it means spending as little as possible and only on what you need.

Let’s look at some money-saving tips for frugal people and their top simple daily frugal habits, too!

What Does Frugal Living Mean?

Frugal living means being aware of your spending and focusing on a few financial priorities.

Frugal living is about finding ways to save where you can make it through different ways such as freebies, DIYs, coupons, seasonal things, etc.

The best way to tame your spending and save more money is to change your lifestyle.

The best part about frugality is that you can create your approach. You decide where you will live stingily and where you will live essentially.

How money gets spent is up to you. So, let’s learn how to use these 6 top simple daily frugal habits to save more money.

Frugality Should Not Be Confused With Cheap.

Cheap means going to the store to buy the lowest-priced item without a thought to quality.

Frugal means assessing your desires and spending less money on the things that don’t matter to you.

It’s about making mindful choices that allow you to save money to pay off your debt faster and enjoy the small and big things in life.

But you have to understand that frugal living is not a sprint but a marathon.

Benefits of Frugal Living

Living frugally is about being smart with your money. There are many benefits of frugal living, including being able to:

  • Allow you to build more financial freedom into your life
  • Focus on the essential things in life (family, friends, faith) instead of worrying about money
  • Fund emergency savings
  • Have more money to pay off debt
  • Build a retirement fund
  • Allow the safety net of savings to allow you to pursue a job you thoroughly enjoy.
  • Travel more often
  • Give more money to your favorite charities

Here are some frugal living ideas you can incorporate in different areas of your life so you’ll know how to live frugally and save money.

1. Start Budgeting

Establishing a budget and sticking to it isn’t easy, but it’s the best way to be in control of your finances and make sure your money is going toward the expenses that matter most to you.

Some tips if you are budgeting at the beginning,

  • Make a list of your values.
  • Set your goals.
  • Determine your income.
  • Determine your expenses.
  • Create your budget

Within your budget, you can prioritize things that matter and ruthlessly cut out things that don’t.

2. Create A Meal Plan

Frugal people plan and prepare their food at home using low-cost but healthy ingredients they have bought at the best low price.

The most popular area where people are most likely to overspend is groceries and eating out.

If you take the time to create a meal plan and a shopping list to go with that plan before you head to the store, you will set yourself up to save many money a month versus picking up takeout several times a week because you forgot to plan.

When I started meal planning, I was pleasantly surprised at the savings.

Instead of ordering, we eat what I’ve cooked at home, and it’s both a money-saving and kitchen-time-saving idea.

3. Go Generic

There might be some store-brand items that you don’t want to purchase, and that’s okay!

But there are also many items, such as cleaning products, detergent, toothpaste, pasta, seasoning, and diapers, that are just as good as their name-brand equivalents but are cheaper.

Be smart when shopping and get the value!

4. Use Up Leftovers

The number one food item people tend to waste is vegetables.

I’m looking at you, a bag of squishy cucumbers in the back of the fridge!

Taking the time to measure and understand portion sizes will also help you waste less food.

Only prepare what you need, and when you run out… you can always make more.

You should also utilize your freezer as much as possible, storing leftovers to have on busier nights.

5. Buy In Bulk

If you know how to be frugal, you know that sometimes buying in large quantities at once is the way to save. It’s not always the most cost-effective to buy the smallest package.

Frugal people check the unit price of an item.

I typically cook on Sunday afternoon and have enough to freeze several portions. During the week, I take those meals out of the freezer and heat them.

6. Take a Look in Your Pantry

The amount of food I keep in my pantry at one time is somewhat embarrassing. But, most people have a similar amount of food lurking in their cabinets.

You’ll always need to have certain pantry staples around, from absolute basics like oil, salt, sugar, rice, etc.

When you’re starting a shopping list, take stock of your pantry items, and jot down any staples that need to be replenished.

Take stock of what you have on hand.

Consider making a meal out of what’s in the pantry or fridge.

Make an effort to think of frugality as a way to enjoy what you care about in life fully.

When you have your money under control, it can be easier to spend on things that matter.

Implement one or two habits at a time until you’ve mastered them all!

You are learning to live well in fewer positions in a place of power over your life and finances.

You’ll be amazed at how much money you can save.
